ISL Classes – Terms & Conditions and FAQs

ISL Courses:

Fees must be paid in full at registration and are not transferable to another person or another term. Only when full payment is received can a registration can take place. Payment implies that you accept the conditions of registration.

Minimum age for enrolment in a course is 16 years.

Attendance is the student’s responsibility.

We regret that it is not possible to make up a missed class by attending another group’s session.

Once the course has started, any requests to change course e.g., to a different day or time, will be at the discretion of management and subject to availability on other courses.

For online courses, the learner is responsible for having access to the necessary technology, hardware and software. In particular, learners are responsible for ensuring they have access to reliable broadband.

The Irish Deaf Society provides equal opportunities to all learners and applicants to access to our education and training programmes.

Classes are occasionally used for teacher training purposes. This will always be under the supervision of your ISL teacher.

The Irish Deaf Society reserves the right to change teachers during the course.

CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS – Students should consider their personal and professional commitments and circumstances before enrolment as we regret that no fees are refundable once the course has started.

Should you wish to cancel your booking before the course begins, a minimum 14 days’ notice should be given. For given notice less than 14 days, administration costs may be deducted from any refund facilitated.

No partial refund for classes can be granted for sessions not attended and no postponement can be allowed.

Once the course has started discretionary decisions to facilitate a course deferral due to compassionate or compelling circumstances can be made by management but requests must be made in writing with supporting details and/or evidence provided. Please note that changes in personal or professional schedules are not considered as compassionate or compelling circumstances.

The Irish Deaf Society reserves the right to cancel a course in the case of insufficient student numbers or unforeseen circumstances, in which case a full refund will be made or the offer to defer will be given. Classes will be filled on a first come first served basis.

DATA PROTECTION POLICY– We are committed to protecting your personal data and right to privacy in compliance with Data Protection legislation and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We collect, share and transfer learner’s personal data to other data controllers where required or permitted by law. The information that you provide to the Irish Deaf Society will be used for its stated purpose.

FAQ’s:

Q: What happens if I give the wrong details about myself?

A: We require basic learner details for funding purposes for our Deaf adult courses and for certification
purposes for our QQI-accredited courses. Giving us the wrong details may affect your place on the course
and in the case of QQI courses it will mean QQI will not issue you with a QQI certificate upon successful
completion of the course.

Q: Why do you need correct learner details?

A: We require only basic learner details but they are required for important reasons. Our Deaf adult
courses are funded by SOLAS and we are responsible for registering you with them. Your registration and
funding for the course can be delayed if you provide us with incorrect details. If you are booked on a QQI
course, we are responsible for registering you with QQI. This is solely for certification purposes. Any
incorrect details given to us will cause a delay to your registration with QQI. Without the correct details,
QQI will not allow your registration with them and you will not receive a QQI certificate even if you
successfully complete the course.

Q: Why do you need my PPSN?

A: We require your PPSN along with very basic learner details either for funding purposes or for
certification purposes. For Deaf learners booking a QQI course with us, we require your PPSN for funding
and certification purposes. Your PPSN will not be shared with any agency other than SOLAS and/or QQI.

Q: I am from the UK and do not have a PPSN. What are my options?

A: The UK equivalent of a PPSN is the National Insurance number. Please enter your NI number in the
section where it asks for a PPSN.
