Support Deaf Ukrainian Refugees

14th March 2022

IDS have been in contact with the Department of Justice Ireland, the Irish Red Cross and the Irish Refugee Council to let them know we are prepared to help where we can. The Red Cross has contacted us back about some more Deaf refugees and they are going to liaise with our Advocacy Department.

Our Advocacy Department will play a big role in supporting any refugees and our education Department (FET) will work to provide courses in ISL, English and maybe other training for refugees.

There is a meeting with Deaf Community organisations this Wednesday, 16th March at 12pm and we have invited DVI, DDA, IDYA, Greenbow LGBT Reach Deaf Services, SLIS and Chime. The purpose of the meeting is to try and coordinate our supports.

Our Advocacy Department will be back in the office, Thomas Mahon Building in Deaf Village Ireland on Monday 21st March at normal office hours 9am – 5pm.

Further Education and Training Department staff will return to the office gradually and all classes remain the same until September.
