Candidates 2024 – ISL Videos
We asked all General Election candidates to share their priorities and commitments to the Deaf community. Watch their videos to see how they plan to support Deaf rights and Irish Sign Language (ISL).
Note: The Irish Deaf Society provided this platform for candidates to speak and has no direct affiliations.
We are asking candidates to commit to amending and fully implementing the ISL Act 2017 to ensure equality and accessibility for Deaf people. This includes improving education for Deaf children, raising awareness among public bodies, addressing the shortage of ISL interpreters, and ensuring equal access to services and employment. We also asked how they will involve Deaf people in decisions affecting their lives, as required by the UNCRPD, and adopt a rights-based approach to services and information for the Deaf community.
Don’t forget to vote on Friday, 29th November, and make your voice heard!
