Overview

The Irish Deaf Society (IDS) is the only national Deaf-led representative organisation of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. We campaign and advocate for Deaf rights and equality. The small media production team from IDS offers an ISL translation and media Deaf-led production service that produces and create online video content. We work with a network of Deaf –ISL native directors, producers, editors and presenters in promoting Irish Sign Language content to the public. We engaged with public and private sector to deliver high quality accessible English to ISL translations for our clients.

We are looking to create a small panel of freelance camerapersons/operators for freelance work on translation and media projects. The cameraperson / operator will work with the IDS’s Media Productions team, and produce Studio content for both IDS internal and external projects. This is a project-by-project position and is not fixed weekly hours. Shooting and Production will mainly be in Deaf Village Ireland, however, for formatting and uploading videos, the cameraperson can work remotely.

To be considered for this position, the applicant will need:

  • Flexible schedule, mainly during office hours
  • Ability to record, and produce high quality video footage
  • Editing knowledge; Understand the post production work flow and ability to format and upload video footage for the editing team
  • Familiarity with lightening, framing and focus requirements in a green room studio
  • Technical knowledge of cameras; have an in-depth understanding of all camera, lens, monitors and lights
  • Make decisions about lens and film and proactive under pressure

Roles and Responsibilities of the position include:

  • To take input from the Media Productions team’s lead on direction of video projects
  • Professional teamwork with the editor on site and remotely
  • Good communication skills and IT communication skills-Independent, can work on own initiative

Skills

  • Experience in filming and producing video content (either formal or informal)
  • Studio camera operating and on location for filming
  • ISL Background and experience with Deaf people preferable

The Irish Deaf Society will provide camera and studio filming equipment as we have our own in-house studio, however the camera person will need to have own equipment to edit and transfer video files.
