ISL Story Sign Videos

The Irish Deaf society supported by Libraries Ireland and European Union of the Deaf (EUD)/Huawei Project have been working together to launch ISL Story Sign part of the International Week of Deaf people. In agreement with publishers, each libraries chose their own book to translate in ISL.

The international Week of Deaf People is celebrated through various activities by Deaf communities all around the world. These include events welcoming everyone and all members of Deaf communities, which include families of Deaf people, professionals and accredited sign language interpreters, peers as well as stakeholders and government, and organisations of Persons with Disabilities.

On this International Day of Sign Languages, we celebrate collective efforts of Irish Deaf community, governments and society in recognising and promoting Irish Sign Language (ISL) – together we recognise sign languages as an essential human right for Deaf people and children.

Each day of the week has different theme, we will be launching the ISL Story Sign videos on Friday’s theme “Sign Language Unite Us!”  at 12pm

Keep an eye on our social media and share the videos to all families and friends.

More children stories in ISL

The Irish Deaf Society has received funding from Huawei and EUD to launch an exciting project. This follows on from the success of Huawei's StorySign App and EUD have collaborated with Huawei to fund Deaf organisations in Europe to provide a project for their community. We have used this funding to provide ISL Linguistics workshops and ISL classes for parents and professionals working with Deaf children, which are ongoing. If interested you can contact us for more information.

We are delighted to announce that, as part of this project, we have produced 4 videos of ISL Stories for Deaf children! All 4 of the stories are Irish Legends and Myths as these types of stories are not available in ISL and we felt it is important to promote this part of Irish culture. We would like to thank publishers Gill Books and authors Yvonne Carroll, Fiona Waters and Felicity Trotman for giving us permission to use their book.

We will be launching a new video every Monday in June, starting on the bank holiday Monday, 1st June! Keep an eye on our social media accounts to see which story will be published every week. We really hope you enjoy the videos and please share with all your friends and family.
