NATIONAL ISL DAY 2024

The Irish Deaf Society would like to share our video showing our celebration of National ISL Day at the Deaf Village Atrium yesterday. We invited everyone to join us by wearing #blue, with speeches from our CEO, John Sherwin, Vice Chairperson, Dr. John Bosco Conama and Advocacy Manager, Elaine Grehan. It was a lovely day yesterday (Friday, 13th December). We had wonderful video displays explaining the Deaf Flag and featuring photos of Deaf people holding Deaf flags. Also, there were adorable videos of Deaf children from the Holy Family Deaf School explaining the WFD’s Declaration of Rights for Deaf Children. It was brilliant. We also enjoyed delicious blue cakes from the Mad Brothers.

A huge thank you to all the wonderful children who participated—you’ve made this message truly powerful! 💙
Let’s continue to work together for a brighter future for all Deaf children.

Irish Sign Language (ISL) Charter: A Commitment to Deaf Rights

The Irish Sign Language (ISL) Charter outlines essential commitments to improve access and rights for the Deaf community in Ireland. In this video, we explain how individuals, service providers, and organisations can support the implementation of the ISL Act 2017 and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). By promoting equal access to services, inclusive education, and employment, and raising awareness about Deaf culture, the ISL Charter serves as a vital framework for protecting and developing Irish Sign Language. Learn how you can support and uphold the rights of the Deaf community. Read more....
